Not Enough Virtual Memory
When I open Guild Wars I get a message that says "Too low Virtual Memory" and it becomes very laggy.
I downloaded something on Virtual Memory from: here and it tells me I have 500 something errors but I have to buy a program to fix them. (duh)
So I was wondering if there is a way to fix this without buying a program.

this happened to me but with another game,
Too change your virtual memory go to:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Under Performance click Settings > Advanced > Under Virtual Memory click Change.
Now where it says custom mine originally said 7xxMb - 16xxMb or something like that. I changed both boxes to 2560 and click set, after i did that never had that problem again
But make your you have enough space to do this, because when you change this it will use 2.5Gb of your HDD

Thanks, that helped a lot.
Reduced the lag too.
So now, its almost playable.
If you're still here, I have another question:
When I load a place and it finally gets to 100% it takes 2-3 minutes to switch to the new place...
Any ideas?
Edit-No its not playable. Still far too laggy.

This is not my computer. I can/will not buy more RAM or get a new computer.
When I ask a question, I'd prefer an answer that wasn't: "Get a better one", I am just seeing how much I can get out of this.
I don't know off the top of my head what kinda Graphics Card it is. Dell Graphics or something.
-Edit-
Its: Intel(R) Graphics Media

yea, how much RAM does your current computer have, because thats probably your problem, mine only has 512mb and i can play fine.
Edit: or try reducing your setting all to as low as they can go in gw and see if that works, if it does then its your graphics card.

if you refuse to fix the problem of too much virtual memory being used (problem being: not enough physical memory), then why get mad at him when the solution is to add additional ram?
with your current situation, best thing you can probably do is drop all settings to the minimum, defrag your hard drive, and up the amount of vm your computer is allocation on your hard drive. btw, if its not your computer, make sure you get permission from the owner to change the settings around . ..

Usually that thing means that you haven't got enough RAM. I was playing with 256 before and that was very laggy. I upgraded to 1 gig this christmas and it has been working since, but I think you are probably at either 256 or below it.
Try checking to see if you meet the recommended requirements. The thing where it says "minimum requirements" is B.S. Recommended=minimum.
To check your graphics card, right click and go to properties. Click on the settings tab, then click on the advanced button, then go to the adapter tab. It should give some info on your graphics card. If it is what mine was...64 MB lol, then there is no way you can reduce the lag entirely. Just check to see how big your memory is on the card. That's the crucial thing.
There's also a section on the main website telling a bit about what causes lag and such and support I think. You might wanna look there.

Make sure you've enough free space on the drive with your swap file. This is usually your system drive ( C: ) unless you've changed it. If you find you've not got a lot of free space on there, you'll get probs like this. Ideally more RAM is the answer, but please don't shoot me for saying that.

If you have "intel graphics" you're running off integrated graphics. (excluding the RAM and VM) That is your problem. Only way to solve it is buy a new graphics card or computer, period (assuming you're already running on all low settings).

I guess I can't play GW without more RAM, I'd rather not try de-fragging it, scince its not my computer but thanks for ll the replies.

No, you can play it without more RAM, albeit slow, you just gotta increase the VM. Your problem is probably more related to the graphics card (lack thereof). Defragging shouldn't hurt anything, but you can always create a system restore point beforehand anyway.
